Mapping: Garbage yard

Published on May 17, 2026byNeoVroloK2 min read

Hello, prisoners! NeoVroloK here. As you well know, the group has been quite active lately, and we’re paying close attention to all your comments. Meanwhile, the team continues to work on many aspects of the game: programming, art, and so on.

Today I’m bringing you a map that many of you will recognize instantly—an area that, in this case, provides access to the dining hall and the sports hall. These are areas that are currently being worked on or have already been completed and shown off, as you well know…

For those who want to know a few more technical details, we’re focusing on all the maps—even the ones we’ve already shown—to make them feel alive (water flowing from a pipe, rats scurrying about, fans whirring, televisions on, etc.). All of this helps with the narrative and the immersion we’re trying to create; together with the sounds, they create a unique atmosphere.

We’ve also considered including advanced systems that allow events to happen in real time, but we still need to figure out how and when to do that. We also need to discuss their implementation and the challenges that come with it.

And yes, the truck has changed. As a fun fact, I’ll mention that when I started modeling this map, I included the original truck—that red one with the old canvas tarp—but it clashed too much with the surroundings, so we’ve replaced it with this brand-new blueish truck (I’ll leave you with a few photos of the interior as well).

The environment has received a special touch when it comes to the ground; in this case, we’ve added texture displacement and optimized it for rendering. This means the ground has real relief—it’s not just a flat texture—and these textures blend together while also supporting “decals” on top of them. Nothing but advantages.

Right now, the art team doesn’t have enough hands on deck to make as much progress as we’d like on the half-finished environments we have. If you have demonstrable experience in asset and environment creation, contact us via Telegram.

Remember when I told you we’re trying to make every environment feel more alive than ever? Do you like rats?
